The Shack by William P. Young

This is clearly one of the best books I have ever read. It really makes you rethink your perceptions of God. Here is a review that describes this book very well:

The Shack is a one of a kind invitation to journey to the very heart of God. Through my tears and cheers, I have been indeed transformed by the tender mercy with which William Paul Young opened the veil that too often separated me from God and from myself. With every page, the complicated do’s and don’t that distort a relationship into a religion were washed away as I understood Father, Son, and Holy Ghost for the first time in my life.

Waking: A Memoir of Trauma and Transcendence

I just finished reading the book Waking: A Memoir of Trauma and Transcendence by Matthew Sanford. It is the true story of Matthew who, due to a car accident, became a paraplegic at the age of 13. Many years later, he discovered yoga and is now a yoga teacher who specializes in working with disabled students. The book is truly amazing and I highly recommend it to anyone!

Christian Yoga

My inspiration for beginning a yoga class directed at Christians was Susan Bordenkircher - the woman responsible for the idea of "A Christian Approach to Yoga".
I attended a workshop with Susan on how to teach a Christian yoga class before I ever starting teaching yoga at Hope Church.
You can learn more about Susan as well as purchase her book and excellent yogo videos/DVDs by visiting her website at http://www.christianyoga.us/home.htm

Free yoga classes via the Internet

I always encourage my students to practice yoga outside of my classes.

You can now find all kinds of free yoga classes on the internet. One of the best sites is Yoga Alive where you can download audio yoga classes. Here is the website link: http://www.aliveyoga.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=SFNT

Another website, Yoga Today, offers free daily podcasts of yoga classes. Via ITunes, you can subscribe to this podcast so the downloads can be scheduled automatically. The website is at http://www.yogatoday.com/
